Did you make any New Year’s resolutions? If you did, I am gathering that all of them would be leading you in the same direction or toward the same goal……to be happier in some way? If you didn’t, I am guessing it is not because you think that your life is perfect? In the search for contentment we normally focus on what makes us happy because as we all know what we focus on grows, so it makes perfect sense to focus on the positive in our lives. Today I have a little challenge for you and it will be to look at your life a little differently……………….
My question to you today is, what is making you unhappy? I am guessing that by focusing on the positive all of the time, that some of us may be a little guilty of sweeping what makes us unhappy under the carpet. We leave it there in a little pile and secretly keep adding to it without addressing the issues in our lives.
Now I don’t want anyone to dwell on this for too long just a quick 5 minutes of your time to make a simple list. This then will become your list to work with to make some constructive and real changes in your life. It may be as easy as finally booking in for that haircut, organising an overdue Doctors visit, cleaning out the junk food from your cupboards or tidying up that room in your house that makes you cringe every time you walk past it. It may be more complex like improving a relationship, working on finding a new job, changing your attitude towards some challenges or taking some steps to make a move.
By taking stock of what is making you unhappy you can get real and start to address each matter and take steps to actually make a difference. Some changes will be physical and some will be emotional but courage and conviction will see us through. The more honest we are with ourselves, the more we own what needs to change, the happier we can be.
