From time to time most of us will go on either a diet or health kick of sorts. We may wish to shed some excess kilos, eat healthier or just to increase our level of fitness…….all great incentives to improve our health and wellbeing. We all know that when we are looking after ourselves that we feel better about ourselves and in most cases we become happier. When we diet we decide to eat less sugar and fat and eat more meat, vegetables and fruit. We decide to exercise more and couch potato less. We take the stairs not the elevator and Lucky the dog gets a daily walk.
Well that is all very good, but what about our mental and emotional health?
I think it is just as important to go on a mental/emotional health kick. We need less of the negative, judgemental, self-defeating ways and more of the positive, grateful, forgiving and self-supporting ways. Think of the negatives as junk food and the positives as an awesome big plate of delicious salad.
Just like any diet or health kick one of the greatest tools for success is will power. When you are on a diet you have to be strong and say “NO”……”No” to chocolate, “No” to junk food and “No” to laziness, well when you are on you emotional/mental health kick you will need to draw on your will power to say “NO” when negative thoughts enter your mind, say “NO” to judgement and gossip and say “YES” to positivity, creativity and gratefulness.
We all know the saying “You are what you eat” well equally as important is the saying “You are what you think”.
